Trafford is a thriving, prosperous and culturally vibrant borough and a major centre of economic growth. It forms part of the Manchester Regional Centre and is home to Manchester United, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Dunham Massey, Coronation Street, the INTU Trafford Centre, excellent schools and Greater Manchester's most affluent suburbs.
Trafford is a key player in the Greater Manchester devolution agenda and the Northern Powerhouse. Committed to delivering high quality, sustainable growth, the Planning and Development Service is delivery focused and commercially aware. We seek to build relationships with developers and promote the use of PPAs. The development management team has recently been strengthened with the creation of new posts, two new Area Teams (East and West) and a Major Developments Team, in order to support unprecedented levels of developer interest in the Borough.
Trafford's heritage significantly contributes to the desirability of the Borough as a place where people want to live, work and invest. Trafford has 21 conservation areas, each with a recent Conservation Area Appraisal and Conservation Area Management Plan. It has over 250 listed buildings and many other designated and non-designated heritage assets, including the Grade II* registered park and garden and Grade I listed hall and stables at Dunham Massey, a significant visitor attraction. Many of the development schemes coming forward have significant and complex heritage implications. We are therefore now seeking to recruit a Heritage Development Officer to embed specialist built heritage and conservation expertise within the Planning and Development Service.
The post holder will lead the Council's heritage function, providing specialist advice and ensuring that statutory and discretionary duties with regard to the enhancement, protection and promotion of the Borough's heritage assets are undertaken. Reporting directly to the Head of Planning and Development, the post holder will be expected to assist in the delivery of high quality, sustainable development and the provision of anefficient and effective planning service in Trafford. We welcome applicants with relevant public or private sector experience. In return, we offer the opportunity to work in a busy and friendly development management team on some of the most exciting development proposals within Greater Manchester.
You will have:
Degree or equivalent with relevant qualification in thehistoric built environment.
At least two years' or significant relevant previous experience of heritage development and provision of specialist technical heritage advice to a range of stakeholders.
An extensive knowledge of heritage and how it can be used positively to underpin corporate objectives and priorities.
Extensive technical knowledge relating to the sensitive maintenance, repair and restoration of historic buildings and structures.
Excellent communication, negotiation and customer careskills.
Our working environment at Trafford Town Hall is exceptional. We have a total reward package available including: local government pension scheme; car lease scheme; generous annual leave scheme; option to buy back additional annual leave; flexi-time; agile working; employee recognition awards; celebrating success scheme and a comprehensive health and wellbeing strategy.
The Council's modern, open plan offices are located less than 10 minutes from Manchester City Centre, close to Old Trafford Metrolink Station. The popular residential areas of Altrincham, Sale, Chorlton and Didsbury are within 15 minutes travel time.
